While I agree with what you are saying I would like to make a point. It
seems from what I see, that in the US, prices in the shops and on internet
sites will be similar for the same piece of equipment. I'm not sure what
it's like in the UK or Europe maybe Iain or Rene can help us out there. Now
take a trip to Ireland. I find nearly everything in tackle shops (and other
shops) over here to be much more expensive than online stores. I really
enjoy going into tackle shops and having a look around you never know what
bargin you will pick up and where possible I will buy off my local tackle
shop. But I simply refuse to be ripped off and that's what I can honestly
call the prices on some equipment over here. A friend of mine runs a tackle
store and I look after his web site so I get good discounts from time to
time, but even with that I sometime see items on the internet stores cheaper
than my discounted prices. I feel that if a store offers goods at a similar
price that i would have no problem paying those prices even if they were a
little higher. I think we are paying for the privilage of rummaging through
everything and really enjoying the experience. I can't remember how many
time I have looked at some tying material in a store and bought it just
because I liked the look of it and maybe had a few ideas for the material. I
do think that if the local store has items close in price to online stores
we should make an effort to keep the local store up and running so that we
can continue to experience the fun in finding some material of other piece
of equipment while rummaging through the store. But again, I rufuse to be
ripped off.

This points out the struggle between keeping the local
shop in business and the convenience and sometimes
savings of buying online. Personally, I really enjoy
going into flyshops and will seek out the local ones
as I travel. The internet has put these operations in
danger of extinction. I like 'em, but I know that
others could care less and order on the 'net. Just
thinking out loud. -Jeff
