Played flutaphone in the 4th grade, clarinet for about 3 yrs. after that, then switched to drums all thru high school, and finally guitar for 10 yrs. or more after that. Worked in bands from high school all the way until i was about 27, and then decided to just keep working as an engineer. Main reason was because i was never out of work as an engineer, and constantly working with musicians and "in the business" making a living. From 1976 until 1981 i was the house sound-man at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco. Then i moved to New York City and worked alllllll the Jazz clubs doing sound, some full time, some as a sub. Then in 1983 i went on the road for the next 7 yrs. with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messenges, the most successful and longest living small Jazz group in the history of the music. After Art died in 1990 i worked free lance on the road as road manager and sound-man for countless Jazz bands from coast to coast and in Canada, Europe, the Orient, and beyond. Decided to retire from all that in 2000, but it took until 2001 before i could. Nowdays i think back and remember the years where i slept in my own bed less the 50 nights a year and it almost seems like a dream. Course that's what it was before it all started, and it came true. Who'd a thunk it? mark

Why not, I might be playing the banjo by then. Starting to do a little
picking. Used to play a 6 string and a 12 string, dulcimer, auto harp.
Can't hardly remember that far back. Still have the 6 string and the 12
string guitars. Fingers just don't work that well anymore. I tried playing
by ear but my neck gets too stiff.
