Brings back great memories, Tony, Skip teaching us how to make those leaders on your back porch/room two years ago. I still make them and use them all the time.
Wish I were able to come to the Sowbug.

Gary,
The best I have seen come from Skip Shorb. He was a short time member of this
list some years ago.
He has a different way of making them, the furl is the tight and slightly
different that most furles I have seen. He will be doing a demo at the Sowbug.
I hope you will make it in 2004.
I am sure that he would answer any questions you might have about furled
leaders. He even makes sinking furled leaders.
I am also sending this message to him.
I am sure he will contact you.

I know we have had this discussion before, but lately I have been looking
at furled leaders. My web research shows different construction
techniques. Some with "3 Step" leaders. Some with "5 Step" leaders. What
is the difference and why would a person want one over the other?

When I look at all the websites touting furled leaders, I see them for
everything from "light trout" to "heavy tarpon". Is it the size of the
material used in construction that make one leader lighter or heavier than
another?

Also, I notice they are made of a variety of materials. UNI Thread,
Monofilament, and Fluorocarbon seem to be the materials of choice. The
purpose of the Fluorocarbon is obvious with it's sinking quality, but why
would one prefer a leader constructed of thread ove one constructed of
mono, or vice versa?

Trying to learn.
