Don't forget the shock absorbing benefits of the furled leaders.
nylon (mono) furled leaders have great shock absorbing characteristics, polyester multistrand (aka 'UNIthread') not. There's only a little 'stretch' in the furl itself (due to unfurling under stress), most of it is a consequence of the stretch inherent in the material. Of course a furled polyester leader has more 'stretch' than a hypothetical straight polyester leader of the same length and taper.
