Dave-
If you're not already aware of this site, go to
www.westfly.com, when the page opens, click on "Oregon", on the next page click on "Forums" and then when that page opens, click on "Oregon" again. You can use the search function or post a question. You do have to register to post (I think), but it doesn't cost anything. Great bunch of people on the list, I'm sure someone from Southern Orygun will be happy to help you out.
I've been stalking the wily steelhead on the Deschutes and paying my dues with lots of cold morning hours and one rather chilly bath, so far things are kind of slow, although some people on the Westfly list have had some pretty good days. (But, you know how fishermen are! <G>) Anyway, things are hit and miss on the Middle Deschutes, so far I've had several grabs and a couple on, but no fishies in hand. Most of the guides and shop owners are predicting a good December run, though. Wishful thinking maybe.
If I wasn't planning on being in California myself on the dates you mentioned (going to Chico to catch a guitar player/singer I'm a fan of), I'd invite you to join me to try your luck here in Central Oregon. If you do come up this way and come through Madras, be sure to stop at Numb Butt Fly Co and talk to Merrill Hummer the owner, he'll be glad to help you out with advice, fly tips, etc. The usual disclaimers apply, not affiliated with the shop, etc, except to hang around and gab.
Good luck.

Group,
Weekend after next, Dec. 5-7, I need to find some Steelies. I live on the central coast of California, so I probably only want to drive 14 ish hours max (you thought you had it bad). Ive been sort of house bound for the last few months due to a repairing rotator cuff. The shoulder is getting a lot better and Im ready to double haul over some good (great?) moving water for steelies. Im going stir crazy here, doing nothing fishing wise, except tying and dreaming. Another plus is I talked to my dad, he is wanting a fishing trip as well, we havent fished together for 9-10 yrs .
So if any of you west coasters have any good ideas for Nor cal or southern Or. (yeah I know, back to the thread of the terrible californiacs) please let me know.
Thanks,
Dave Wilson
