I would think that unless you are a production tyer and need to have threaded bobbins ready and waiting, half a dozen or less would be sufficient.
Personally, I don't use more than about 6 or so different colors and certainly not more than one or two at a time.

I saw one that the guy had 23 bobbins loaded and ready to go. Just wondering if I'm missing out by only having one bobbin for thread *G*.
