[VFB] what is this??

I was watching the fly fishing masters yesterday and I was wondering what the little thing on there line was?? it looks like a fly but its about 3 to 4 feet above the fly its self??? This is probly something that every body knows but me so thought that I would ask. thanks Patrick Myrtle Creek Oregon
