Good of you to share that info Don. I've known Marvin almost a couple years
now. Met him in Montana last year at the Livingston show, and took his and
Judy Lehmburg's class this past Aug. in Idaho Falls. GREAT! class. This year
she was the lead instructor and he assisted, next year they switch. They
take turns being the lead every other year. The class was phenominally
instructive and VERY fun and entertaining also. The two of them work
extremely well together. It's quite obvious what good friends they are. AND,
between the two of them, your vocabulary is bound to triple over the course
of two days. It's a two day class, and you get to enjoy just listening to
them come up with these magnificent words alllllll day(s) long. Marvin is a
complete wizard especially in terms of what he can do with thread. I have
NEVER seen thread control on that level. It is amazing what he can do and
accomplish with thread. I now have two of Judy's framed A.S. flies and one
of Marvins. You can't get one of Marvins unless your willing to wait
forever.........lol. So, i contacted him in advance and set it up. He had
tyed and framed, (does all his own frames exactly the same) a Butcher, in
advance to go along with him to the FFF I.C. so he would have it for his
presentation on the Granger Collection. He said that if i wanted, i could
buy that one, since he only needed it for the presentation. SOLD! $275. I
paid for it on Mon. morning right before we started the class, and i had it
right after the presentation on Fri. If you snooze, you loose. Case Closed!
I also got one of his flies he tyes at his booth and gives away. A beautiful
Irish Mayfly pattern. He's my newest hero, LOL. What a guy. That site
www.Bas4Sure.com is a great site too. Lots of cool flies. Everyone should
bookmark it. As of now, (far as i know), the FFF I.C. in 2004 is the last
week in Aug. IF, it remains so, neither Judy Lehmburg OR Marvin will be able
to make it. Judy will be back at school, teaching biology in Houston, TX.
and Marvin will be in the Bahamas fishing for Bones with "Mr. Granger." Last
i heard, they were both hoping the FFF would change the I.C. dates. And so
were a LOT of other people. Whenever it is, sing: "I'lllllllll be
there................" lol. mark

Awesome stuff there my friend.
Thanks for sharing,
Jimi
To those of you who enjoy salmon flies, here's a few from x-vfb member
Marvin Nolte, my friend here in Casper.
These photos of his work were sent from a friend, Bas Verschoor, a Dutch
Flytier that I met in San Mateo.
Bas also conducted the tour for the American flytiers when I was at the
'FlyFair' in Holland a few years ago.
(You'll notice on my web-site that my giant flexo bass is named the
'Bas4Sure', in his honor.)
Marvin is a world champion salmon fly tier, and is the tier of the Granger
Collection, the largest collection of classic salmon flies in the world.
Enjoy...
