Nymph: classic Sawyer PTN Oh lets have fun with this. I REALLY like Byard's version of the Copper John as the nymph much better than a Sawyer PTN or a traditional PTN (Orvis tradition?). I like the shine of the copper, the flash of the peacock and irridescence of the awesome hair.
OTOH, I'm experimenting with a simple wet hackle tie with a copper wire body or rope dubbed ice dub depending on my mood. I just think a wavy wet hackle gives more action than CDC. (At this point the Lowlander raps my knuckles with his cane rod)
Thorax flys have always done better for me in the midst of a heavy hatch. For the light sporadic hatches of fall I tie a slightly oversized hackle tipped wing with sparse hackle. It just seems to work well for me I suppose.
Never seem to see an olive spinner fall. Must be my eyes. Your serve Hans. ;-)))
