Hi Wes,

I bought some fluorescent red edge bright. I use it to substitute the red
surveyors tape for the Surveyor.

A couple of comments:

1) Once you trim the strip narrow, the edge brightness diminishes. This is
based upon the "strength" of the glow reduces with edge length.
2) When wrapping don't wrap flush or else you lose the brightness. Wrap
onto itself, exposing the edge.
3) The best effect that I found was to wrap a base of holo tinsel underneath
the edge wrap. This was the effect I was looking for. I will hold off on
buying other colors until I fish what I have tied.

Obviously I have not yet fished these flies, so I have nothing to say on
general effectiveness.

Thanks,

Chris.

Subject: [VFB] Edge Bright

Hi All,

Has anyone used a product called Edge Bright for tying flies? Have you
heard of anyone having any success with flies tied that way? Any online
references?

Edge Bright is the fluorescent-appearing thin transparent plastic that
has a very bright cut edge that acts as kind of a light pipe. I can
get a quantity of this stuff in fluorescent red, but don't really know
if it would be useful in steelhead patterns, midge larva or whatever.
I did know of a friend who was experimenting with salmon patterns with
this stuff, but that was a while ago and I don't know if there was a
positive outcome.
