John -

Depending on the material used to make the paintbrush, I've seen them in colors from black to a very light tan. They are also available with natural hair that is multicolored (dark with light tips, tri-toned, etc.)

I suspect, although I don't know, that the author was talking more in shades of natural colors than in colors like red, yellow, green, etc.

Just my $.02 worth.

Does anyone know what Paintbrush Fibers are? I read on the web about a fly that the author uses Paintbrush fibers in many colors, and am lost as to where to get them or even as to what they are. I can't believe that there are many different colored paint brushes.
Thanks
John
