Damn, i'm gonna have to get ahold of Sage and see if we still have our Reddington deal? I knew they had been swallowed up, but not until now did i think of "us." We had a 65% off deal with Reddington for anything they made. That's probly history now............oh well, things change.....and change is good. LOL. Wish us luck. mark

Wes,

Of coarse he w0uld say the lifetime deal was bad for business, it made every other rod manufacturer step up warranty in my opinion. Do you really think that Redington was going belly up or the stronger more powerful SAGE company bought them out before they became second behind Redinton. I have owned 3 or 4 Redingtons and I liked the warranty, one of mine broke while putting it in the case and then I got a brand new one and it broke on a float trip 3 miles from my truck I had to enjoy the pretty spring day and didnt get to fish anymore. THey replaced both rods no questions asked. I hated to hear that they were bought out but so goes.

While at the San Mateo International Sportsmens Expo I made it a point to visit the Sage/Redington booth to ask about their warranty policy for past Redington products. As you may know, Sage has bought out Redington.

The rep there was simultaneously accosted by another flyfisher asking the same question about warranty on Redington waders.

The rep's reply: Sage did not assume any warranty obligations through the purchase of Redington, but they would, when possible, replace under warranty when the identical or similar product is still available.

The catch is if you need warranty replacement for any product Sage does not make (i.e. waders), you are out of luck. Also, if you own a top-of-the-line Redington rod (like a DFR which I have or a Nano-Titanium), the best they will be able to do would be replace it with a $195 list Redington rod in current manufacture. So if you bought one of the $650 list rods on the basis of the lifetime guarantee, you are left holding the bag.

I bought my DFR on eBay at a great price several years ago, but it has become my favorite rod, and I am distressed to learn there will be no way of replacing it when it goes to the rod heaven in the sky.

The rep was adamant in saying that Redington's lifetime guarantee was one of the worst things to happen to the rod industry, and he implied that was part of the reason for Redington's financial failure. The guy who was behind Redington's heyday is now with Albright rods.
