I was just reading through all these posts and thinking that I had never
broken a rod. Then I remembered that time I was in South Africa fishing for
carp in some river. A speed boat flew by snagging my line and ripped about
200
yards of line off the real on a modest drag setting before the rod tip and
line broke. The smell off the real was terrible.
