Since a few people have made some replies, I guess I'll tell what little I know.  North Americans and Europeans tend to associate a slight blue tint to white items when clean, therefore the oprical brighteners used in dtergents, etc. in these areas give a bluish tint.  thew same is not true all over the world.  For example, in South America people associate a slight red tint with clean white items, so the optical brighteners used for products there give off a little red.  I don't know the specific compounds or their availabilities, though.  I'll ask Danette (our new faculty member) tomorrow about it, to see what i can find out.  I don't what range of optical brighteners are available in what colors.  She may.

Another strange request from the guy in Oregon...and yes, it is
flytying oriented.

I am currently researching OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS, particularly those made
for the textile industry.

I know that optical brighteners are added to laundry detergents and
also pet shampoos, but would like to find an easily available source
for small quantities of the optical brightening agent itself. Anyone
have any suggestions? Most web references are just for large quantity
imports from China, India, etc.

Also I keep running into the term BLUEING AGENT. What is this?

After a couple of hours of poking around on the web and search engines,
I have run into a brick wall.

It will all make sense later...trust me!
