I am curious, as I'm not familiar with a speckled

cree.

All of the cree I've seen is bar- cree (and the

variants).

I have many mottled and speckled capes, but none

in the
traditional cree colors.
So I would really appreciate a look-see.

Here is a story about my experience with hackles.
I was on a trip to

Maine and stopped in LL Bean. They had a bin of

closeouts that the

salesman was putting out. They were small necks @ 50 cents each. Having

travel money I splurged.

Picked out 50 necks figuring I could trade them

for something. They were

all natural necks. In the bunch there were some

necks like I had not see

before. There were mottled and speckled brown ,

black and cream . I I

picked out 25 of those. I made a stop a fly shop

in New Hampshire and

was telling the owner about the necks. He wanted

to see them. Then he

made me an offer, he would trade the 9' 9 wt I

was looking at for some

of those necks. He took 20 of the 25 speckled

necks and a couple of

others. He is a commercial tyer and was going to

use them for tying

Adams dry flies. He wanted all of the speckled

ones but I wanted to give

a couple to my tying group. I kept five I will make this short. When I showed them to my

tying buddy, he said,

Those are Cree and offered me 10.00 each. I still have two of the necks and really hate to

pluck any feathers off

of of them. That is what happens when you are not educated on

what you have.
