Bakelite is a crosslinked phenolic resin, filled with an inorganic (chalk) or organic (wood dust) filler. Invented by Belgian inventor and chemist Hendrik Baekeland.
Yuck. Still can smell Bakelite after all these years. It was a common box material for electronics hobby kits. Not sure if they still make it today, or what they would use it for. Probably could use it as skunk repellent. *g*
