Heard that we may make the national news...

4/5/04 530am
Over 7" in less than 48 hours. An ark is looking better. Actually managed to
use our canoe on the road. Got Amanda out last night. She is staying with
friends in town so she can make school. Theresa and I have been rotating
through the night tending buckets and checking the progress of how things
are settling. Talked to a few friends last night. No one, even the oldest of
the old has ever seen anything like this. Carlsbad is a disaster area due to
flooding. Dark canyon crested at about 27' yesterday but has not receded
much. The last major flood they had it crested at around 15'. For a dry
arroyo that never sees any flow that is interesting, wish I could see it.
Almost every low water crossing is closed and the Pecos river is still
rising threatening homes along it. This is the strangest thing anyone has
ever seen around here. Still raining out and promises to continue for
another couple of days. Never seen anything like this here in the desert.
Will get out and slug around in the mud after the sun comes up and check on
the damage. The office is still settling and it will take days, maybe weeks
for the shaded areas to dry out enough to be able to formulate a plan for
repairs.
Will close for now and empty the buckets, feed the cats and check the news.
Have a good one my friends,
Jimi
