Interesting comments.  Would be interesting to see how he started.
I'll check, but I think the difference between cutting the feather and
plucking it is the time for regrowth.  If you pluck it, the bird starts a
new one immediately.  If the feathers is damaged, as with cutting, it takes
a molt to get rid of the feather to start a new one.

Dr. Tom euthanizes his birds, so they feel nothing other than going to
sleep.  They're even spared the trauma  of getting plucked or chopped.
