As high stick nymphing was taught to
me:
A long rod of 8' to 9' is used with about 2' to 3'
of flyline out of the rod tip and a leader and tippet of about 7' with the
nymph attached. A strike indicator is used and set for the depth of the
water +/- . A cast is made upstream and allowed to flow downstream with the
current while holding the rod horizontal at shoulder height. Only the
leader and tippet are in the water and the rod tip is moved thru an arc
that follows the nymph downstream. At the end of the drift the rod is once
again flipped upstream and the drift repeated. Casts (flips) are repeated until
all the water is covered and your position is then changed and the whole process
repeated.
It is easier to do than to describe. I am not
sure what flipping for bass is, as I am just a trout fisherman.
