Did you use dyed or natural CDC? CDC should be cold-dyed. If not, the dye bath can burn away the thinnest fibers that trap air, which helps keeps the fly afloat.

How many plumes should I use??, I dont want to overdress my patterns either. For example, I used 2 plumes on a sparsely tied lightweight shuttlecock midge pattern recently and it sunk like a rock.
Am I missing something???
