For those who like quill patterns, try peccary hairs.  It has bands of shades of cream, tan and brown that make for nice graduated colors as it is wrapped.  They are fairly tough, and even tougher if coated with a layer of head cement.  Like quills, they need to be softened before use.  They can also be dyed with markers.
Has anyone found a replacement source for D-P Quills?  They appear to be plastic shavings and used to be carried by Fred Reese's Trout Shop.  I use them quite a bit and wish that I had stocked up before the shop went out of business.
