I am not a great flytyer but here is my .02.
I agree with you on the Rite bobbin and I find when it spins the thread spins around the shaft through the open area. This is my biggest gripe about the Rite Bobbin.
My preference is some inexpensive bobbins I used to get from a small mail order dealer in N.J. , I think he is no longer in business. At this time I am pretty happy with the bobbins I get from Gudebrod, I am not really sure who makes them.

IMO there is no such thing as the bobbin of choice, just personal preferences for the job at hand. While I like the adjustable tension of the Rite, I think it's too light. My favorite is the standard Ergonomic bobbin made by Umpqua.
