I'm only happy if you can still fish your lake. 22" shouldn't hurt too much, but the feeder streams, if any and runoff is surely making things muddy. But. . . . fish still have to eat, and they will, mud or not. Lake Waco is going down slowly. She was 9 feet above normal pool first of last week, right after the weekend 6" + rain and water coming in from three rivers and two creeks. Lake Waco is a 12,000 acre lake, small by Texas lake standards, but still, 9 feet of extra water could blow everything out downstream if the Corps released it all at once. Waco can handle the heavy rains, though. She rose 33 feet above normal pool in Dec 90-Jan 91. We couldn't get in the boat ramps to fish until late May. This was a real plus for the fish. They got to spawn unmolested by fishermen and the little fry survived and got some size on them because of all the new places to hide, before the lake level went back down and congregated the fish. The Corps has to release it slow to prevent flooding downstream. On June 5 of 1992, just a week after the ramps opened again, I caught my biggest Lake Waco largemouth, nine pounds, eleven ounces. Have a replica hanging on my wall here in my study. Folks wanting to see her can look on my webpage below under Fly Fishing and other Photos. She's right behind and above me in the photo on the bottom of the page.
Looks like it'll be at least another two weeks before I can get onto the lake. Oh, well. I have flies to tie and Jody and I have joined the golf club out by the lake and have been playing a couple of times a week. We used to play quite often back when the kids were young. The walking is good for both of us. Jody's lost at least 30 pounds and I've lost 12. She'd put on that extra weight because of a anti-nausea drug she took during chemo. I don't have any excuse for my poundage, which ain't too bad at six feet and 220
