Well, let me tell you what I did.
I finished up a rod in the morning. About 2:30 I called my fishing buddy and offered to take him to a private stretch on Crooked Creek. The White has been running a lot of water for due to all the rain we had, no trout fishing for several weeks. Crooked Creek has not been fish able due to high water. I just figured we would check the Creek out. As it turned out, the Creek was clear but running about a foot higher than normal. My fishing partner Dean, was already rigged up and ready to fish, I was using my bamboo rod and had to rig up. Dean walked down to the creek and got two real nice slab side gills on his first and second casts.
I got down to the creek and took a slab side on my third cast. Dean worked up the creek and got into some nice smallmouths. He had one break him off. We fished for just under 3 hours and it went on like this for the full time we were on the creek.
I got to my favorite hole and and things really picked up. I was catching a fish on about every other cast. Things were going real good till a large snake came up in front of me. It was between three and four feet long. Now, I have no love for snakes, they make the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I was a little uneasy but held my ground because the hole had been yielding real well. To make a long story shore, the snake finally won out. Each time it came up, it was closer to me. I normally carry a snake gun, when I do I never see a snake, always see at least one when I don't have it with me.
We had a real nice three hours on the creek. Most of the fish I caught were slab side gills in full spawning dress. Several rock bass and three smallmouths for a total of 54 fish. Dean did better on the smallmouths, he got up into the rocky area where I still can't navigate due to the knee replacement.
It the thunder storms hold off, we will hit the Creek again today.
Heading for the creek now.
Tony
