From Border River Angling by W.H.Lawrie
ETIQUETTE
A late vice-president of the Scottish Anglers' Association, Henry lamond, in the text of his excellent book, (Days and ways of a Scottish Angler) indicated the rule" That in trout-fishing, anglers fishing down-stream should give the courtesy of the water to those fishing up. Other things would be merely matters of detail."
It is well, therefore, that every angler should study to be considerate to others, and to engender good-fellowship between followers of the gentle art. There is no more democratic sport than angling, in Scotland at least. All class distinction is shelved at the river-side, and those on whom fame and fortune have deigned to smile are to be found eagerly discussing matters piscatorial, and even exchanging patterns of flies that happen to be killing, with their humbler and less fortunate brethren. Angling, considered in this light, must be reckoned a social asset worth fostering, and to this end every angler should do his utmost.
