For those of you that don't have peccary hair you
can tie Ring neck pheasant tail fibers in a knot with a small crochet hook very
easily. They come dyed black also for black stones. If you do
want to soften quills try a combination of warm water and Woolite. See if
that works.

Subject: [VFB] Stone Flys...
DonO,
You don't know how much I appreciate you sending
me some of that Peccary Hair to use for legs and antennae on these Stone
Flys... I was getting so frustrated using small hackle stems because the
darn things kept breaking when I tried to bend the legs into shape, even after
soaking them in hot water, but this peccary hair works fantastic... It's
taking me close to 3 hours to tye each one, including the preparations for
each fly, but it's well worth it... Again, thank you very much... I owe
you one... (VBG)...
