GOD DAMN I got
scared there!!!
Yesterday when I sat
here, in the middle of writing a mail... "TZZZZK... ZOIIIIIIIIII... BEEP"... the
puter suddenly rebooted. I hadn't done anything and I remembered Don had the
same problem not too long ago. I immediately started thinking "Now there is
a moth in the fan, or Don has simply sent HIS version of the San Juan worm...
the kind of worm Norton hasn't picked up on yet."
Then I didn't think
more about it until a minute ago... when suddenly "TZZZZK"... with the
difference that there were no "ZOIIIIIIIII" and "BEEP" following it. I tried to
start it up... no result. The computer was DEAD AS A STONE!!! The lamp beside me worked,
the speakers were on... it wasn't a blackout.
Thoughts started
spinning... Teresa is going to England for a week, bringing her laptop. Not only
would I be computerless. No, worse... I would be
VFB-LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This wasn't going to be fun. I
would get far more "free time" than I wanted.
Then, just as I was
about to start crying, I noticed... the plugs for the lamp and the speakers
were in another socket. I tried to start the laser printer, which was
powered from the same as the PC... and it was dead. With my foot I flicked
the plug in the wall... and both the PC and the printer came alive
again.
Guess if I got
relieved!!! (And I imagine you're sighing now... "Sooo
close!!!")
