This is a fly tied out of the same stuff.

You can also find it in the core of some body braids you find in the fly shops. Our local shop sells the body tubing dyed and most people pull out the core and throw it away. The core is also dyed.
I've got some pretty nice colors for flies that way. Try experimenting by dying the nylon rope before you remove the core.

I bought some nylon rope at a hardware store while I was visiting family in Nashville last winter. I had lost a strap to my cartop carrier. After I drove 11 hours, I untied the carrier and noticed some lovely, sparkly stuff that came from the rope end flapping and unraveling in the breeze.

It had a cottony-looking core with the nice sparkly stuff on the outside. I
looked at it under my kid's microscope, and it appeared to be trilobal,
shaped like a 3-bladed prop or a 3-legged starfish.

It might not satisfy the antron purists (and I'm certainly no fiber
analyst), but it works really well in flies.

Yup, and given that it is trilobal it traps air under water much better then
other fibers and is excellent for sparkle pupa patterns. Dupont originally
came up with antron as a carpet fiber or yarn with superior water shedding
qualities.

Yup, antron is trilobal, too.

Poly Yarn is not the same. I find it stiffer and not as bright as
Antron. If Aunt Lidias is not Antron, it is real close.
That is just my opinion.

Hey Everybody,

Hopefully a simple question about yarn. Ive never worked with antron
yarn. Is it the same stuff as Aunt Lydias? From what Ive seen in
stores it looks like it might be AL thats been separated.

The reason I ask is I just got Lee Clarks fly tying with poly yarn
book and I was curious anyways!

Thanks,

Ken
