Friday morning saw me with the same rod and same
fly (why switch when one is working?) and in full wading gear started up the
creek. Fishing the pools and finding the seam was like at home and I managed to
bring to hand six fish in about 2 hours.
As I had spent a couple hours teaching one of the
newer fly fisher how to cast I really had enough for the day. Tied demo in the
evening and went to bed dreaming about the lower section of the Rayado. Friday
Dr. Steve took me down to the lower part of the stream and put me on the most
prime water. (thanks Steve) More and larger pools but the same kind of fishing.
It was not water for a beginner to expect to get many hook ups. I worked for all
eleven of the fish I brought to hand. I had two highlights, the first being that
I managed to bring 3 fish out of the first pool I flipped my mosquito into. Then
I managed to misjudge the bank opposite and lost my "good fly" to a fly eating
bush on the other side which was impossible to get over there and
retrieve it. :-( So I tied on a Griffin Gnat and proceeded to catch more
fish. One of the was an eleven and a half inch Brown. All of my others fish were
between 6 and 9 inches. Not big but very good fish and sure was fun.
I am not sure how many fish were caught by our
group of 12 fly fishermen but no one was skunked.
For me fishing is not about catching but in
sharing the fellowship with other like minded nuts. We all had a lot of fun and
for me was one of if not the best trip I have been on this year and actually
ever.
I feel very honored to have been invited to share
which this super gang of Fly fishermen.
Do not want to go into too much detail but after
having lost my Eagle award while I was off playing in the military, Jimmy D and
Jeff Hines knowing about it put heads together and surprised me with a
presentation. MY original award was in May 1952. The paper work verifying with
the National organization was unbelievable.
For me it was a Super vacation. Special thanks to
Jimmy D and Jeff.
