That's what I did with my film cannister. I got the tip from a Swedish fishing magazine. It works great. (Sometimes, but rarely, provide the Swedish fishing magazines enough to make them worth the money.)

So much easier to keep the ends even that way when you remove the hair, especially when you have fat or arthritic fingers. You can make it by leaving the bottom in a film cannister, then cutting about 1/3 the side out, at an angle so that the bottom and about the bottom 1/4 inch of the side remains in place. Joyce
