“Catfish are socially unacceptable!  Your basic trout angler stands in a glossy-magazine river idyll, sporting a military mustache, clothes by Ralph Lauren, vest by Orvis.  His cat-fishing counterpart is a gap-toothed yokel in stained coveralls with a check full of Red Man and a caterpillar cap, hoisting a slimy monster with all the presence of a feed sack full of bowling balls.  If his picture appears at all, it’s a grainy photo in the back pages of a Texas weekly.  As one salmonoid snob said to me, ‘Ugly water, ugly fish, and not very beautiful people.”
