Mike, i forgot to say, (so you don't get confused) that i'm ambidexterious, and i just happen to fold left handed. Even though i tye right handed. So i have the hackle pliers in my left hand, and the tip of the feather in my right when i fold, using my left hand thumb and forfinger to fold the hackle downwards. You may want to adjust that to suit yourself. mark....

I do it as Al and Gretchen Beatty taught me..tie in the feather by the point, take the OUTSIDE edge of the scissors and simply hold the hackle under tension and run that outside edge along the hackle stem, it will put a bend in the barbs and it will fold like a champ as you pull it and guide it with your fingers and run it around the hook shank (or if you are the lucky owner of a Norvise or other rotary vise, then you simply spin the vice and it will lay, wrap after wrap, nicely folded).
