I once slid my vise across the table and tried handing over the bobbin with a look of "okay, hot shot, show me your stuff."   Everyone got a good laugh, he backed right off, and we all enjoyed the session.

My favorite related story here is John Shewey's response to one of those "critiquers."  The fellow was commenting on what material John was using and questioning if that was REALLY how you were supposed to tie the fly.  Since it just so happened to be one of John's own design (and any fan of John would probably know this), he smiled nicely and said:  "Well, it's my d*** fly and I'll pretty much tie it however the h*** I want."

That was classic.  Deb, you're right on: they just want to let you know they know how to tie, too.  Hey, it's all one big club.  Plenty of room for everyone.

Regards,
Monte

“Do you really think I would be sitting here if I didn’t already know how to tie this fly?”   J   They just like to let you know they know how to tie also.  It can be funny at times.  ROTFL

Cheers,

Deb

Did Bugs or DonO write this?  Didn't I say the experts get critiqued the most?

If one can't take the friendly critiquing he get's in fly swap, he should
try tying in public.  Lots of experts out there that just love to critique.
And these don't love you like we do.  I've been tying in public 20+ years,
and I've had my share of critiques.  Builds thick skin and multiple
personalities- I just can't take it alone.
