If it's a Dutch name, I can't say. But I can say that it's a Swedish name
for the European fresh-water fish Aspius aspius... and I can also say it's
the English name for the same fish. Asp is also the common name for more
than one snake, like the European Asp (Vipera aspis) and The Egyptian Cobra
(Naja haje)... which Cleopatra used for her suicide.

OK... enough now. When sliding into snakes, I better stop or I will never
finish the mail.

Good Asp (fish) detail page:

ame=aspius

Henk,

On your referenced page you state, "He plans on targeting asp and sea bass
in the near future, "

I know what an asp is in English - a poisonous snake. Is that a Dutch name
for a fish we might know by something else? Very interesting site. Thanks
for sharing it.

Mike
