as you are playing with horsehair, have you ever tried using clear white stalion tail as an over body wrap.
hook - 12 to 14 down eyed
tail - 3 blue dun fibers
body - yellow silk with middle 1/3 bright red silk, overwound with touching turns of clear white stalion tail, and clear varnished.
hackle 1 or 2 turns of soft blue dun hen hackle
