I first heard of Herter's when my dad (who was livining in West Virginia)
gave
me a copy of The Bull Cookbook . I think George was having a little fun
with
the title. According to him the cooks in the logging camps were called
bull cooks.
In the early 70's I used to ride my BSA motorcycle thru Waseca, Mn. on the
way to and from New Ulm
where Susan was going to college.
Waseca was the home of Herter's for most of their years. Many times I have
wished I had stopped at the store just for a chance to meet
George.
Back to the 'bull". Some have said ol' George tended towards
hyperbole. Perhaps, but I love reading his books anyway.
And I like several of the recipes: In the cookbook and the
Fly tying manul.
