Better yet....  Rope dub your peacock herl (that's the best way I can
explain it to those who know rope dubbing).  Wrap your peacock herl around a
piece of thread and then wrap that around the hook shank.  Then it will last
through more than a couple fish.

After seeing that Yaller Hammer pattern on the fly tying world site, i would

reccommend you to at least use two peacock herls, and wrap one first and 
then the other thru it for durability. Fish sure as hell isn't gonna mind, 
and the fly will hold up longer. One herl will be busted on you after the 
first fish. Maybe a little bit of very fine gold wire (wraped thru) might 
help as well. Help sink it and the extra bulk (of an added herl) is good for

splaying the hackle anyway. Good luck. mark.....
