Murf, i think it took a lot of courage for Ray to ask us to tye Grey Ghost flies for him. I also think that he'd apprciate them to be individuall, and not just carbon copies of the same ole' thing. If i were going to get flies from everyone, (even though basically the same pattern) i would hope that each one had it's own charactor and flavor, as different from the one right next to it as possible. mark

Mark,

I think Ray just wants some personal reminders of his friends here at the VFB.  Some nice folks are sending me "kits" with the real thing and I'll tie a few versions for Ray.  When I took some jpegs of my fly boxes the other day, I quickly saw a few of "Grey Ghost's" gifts to me from years back.

Another guy I have an old debt to is Wally Lutz who sent me a bunch (a dozen or so from #14 to #22 maybe) of exceptional Wally Wings long ago.  Sad and embarrassing that I have the several year old padded envelope labeled but threw the first few batches of my promised pattern into the bulk bin for fishing by me since his ties were much better than mine.  Sometimes I get intimidated by the talent here but I will never forget my promise to send them Wally.

Sadder still is my Linda Foote's Polliwog story.  Linda sent it (extras actually) in a swap and is gone from us now but the fly still reminds me of her (I have one left that was never fished).  She got one of mine in the swap but it reminds my of some of the personal gifts from past friends like Poul J., Gary L., who are gone as well.  Funny thing is that I value the flys from many of the lessor knowns every bit as well.  Gosh I've met some fine people.  Byard, Tony, Hans, dances, Henk...must stop this list as it will put the VFB into overload.  You know who you all are.
