Yes, we were.
Fishing report for last week
Dennis Conrad came and stayed with us last week after the Smallmouth show in Oklahoma. He came to help me put in a walkway in front of my house and do some trout fishing. Last Monday we hit Tucker Shoals on the White river here in Arkansas. The weather was perfect and the dam only had one unit running. This allowed us to do some wading. Fishing started out a bit slow but it picked up later in the morning. We caught some nice trout. Denny was using the Chili Pepper and I was using the fly my friend Al from back east sent me to try on the White. I posted the pattern last week but left out the peacock thorax in the recipe. This fly really did a number on the trout here as it does back in N.J. I caught a good number of large trout on it, the best was a 18" brown. On Saturday morning, I took 18 trout on this fly and Sunday morning took 6 trout. We only fished about an hour early Sunday morning as Denny had to leave. Denny caught four on the pepper.
Friday evening we made a drift from Tucker to my dock, one half mile. It was a beautiful calm quiet evening. All you could hear was the birds and some fish jumping. There was a light caddis hatch on. I fished Al's fly again. Fishing from the boat, I only hooked one fish but never saw it. It about spooled me several times. I did get it close to the boat a couple of times and Denny got a glimps of it, I never even got a glimps of the fish. I was concerned about fighting it too long so I stuck the rod tip straight at the fish and the hook came loose. That was the second one I did that with last week. The other was while I was wading.
The days all ran together so I am not sure what day I caught one of the largest sunfish I have ever caught. It was a surprise because it came out of the White, a cold water river. In this area it is called a Green Sunfish. It was bigger than the palm of my hand. It also took Al's fly. That same evening, I took a Roach on that fly. Between Al's fly and the Chili pepper, I guess I C&R about 40 fish last week. It was a nice change after months of heavy rain and running the 8 units at the dam.
Work, yrs we did some of that too, got the slate walkway in and the small deck built, Thanks to Denny and all the work he did. I would of taken weeks to get it done.
I have one photo of the 18" brown, I had it in the live well till we got back to the dock. Will be glad to send it to who may want it.
