Part 1
Here's my trip report for Roscoe as promised... I had one day between trips
and I had to teach a tying class for a friend. Peggy and I left Friday for
Roscoe. I drove behind her Winnebago in my Jeep. We had lost our
reservations at a local Bed & Breakfast that will remain nameless (but they
probably don't deserve it). As it turned out I think we were more pleased
with our accommodations after seeing the place anyway. When we first pulled
in to our campsite I noticed a few familiar faces next door. Steve
Thornton, Ted Patlen, Kim Boal, Jack Gartside and two gentleman I didn't
know were already there.
After exchanging greetings with them, Peggy, Brendan and I set up camp and
headed into town to explore and have dinner. We visited a couple of the
local fly shops and then went back to camp to tie some flies. I had brought
some Juri Shumakov tubes to tie for the show so I had to set up my vice and
tie some practice ones. I'm getting a little too accustomed to tying big
saltwater tubes.
Saturday we both tied in for Mark during the morning shift of his Clearwater
Junction show. It was a really nice time getting to visit with some old
friends and I got to meet a few new ones. I sat next to Ed Engleman who did
very well with Brendan testing all his homemade vises and tools. They do
stand up well to the 5 Yr old test and he is a very patient man. We met a
gentleman from Arkansas, a fellow Whiting Pro Team member named Charles
Barton. Whiting supplied us with some great pro-team shirts this year so we
were both looking pretty sharp. :) They spoil us! I bought a special
frame with three of Tim Trexler's flies to add to my book shelf next to Don
O's giant Muddler. It's looking pretty good.
Mark Romero had arranged for us to get a really nice lunch through the Kings
and after that we headed off to the Catskill Museum and we spent a while
enjoying their exhibits. Misa Romero had given us directions to find Mary
Dette at her shop. What a treat!!! She is such a sweet lady. We both left
with a few flies for our fishing the next day and a couple pins for our
hats. Then it was back to town to get a fishing license for me and some
more goodies at the Orvis store.
