Deb,

[jerry goldsmith] Which Nordkapp do you have- both the Jubilee and the H20
are great boats. Fabulous ocean touring boats, but I thought both of them
were skegged, not ruddered.
Is the cape horn the 150 or 170. Also very
good boats but not in the same class as the Nordkapp

****The Nordkapp is a Jubilee and the Cape Horn is a 150. The Cape Horn is
definitely a rudder. The Nordkapp is inside the boat so it's just a skeg.
I've only taken the Nordkapp out once in the bay. It's a great boat but my
husband doesn't want to give that up easily. I would compare it to touching
someone's prize fly rod. "Sure honey I'll share it. BS!!!!"
I've never used the rudders either as I said mine is more for recreation.

[jerry goldsmith] Are you talking about the little 11 foot sit-inside ??
How did you add a skeg to it ?? I have never heard of an add on skeg ??

**** The perceptions (we have two) are 13 -14 ft. This is the boat I use
when I go out. Perception doesn't offer the add on skeg kit anymore. We
added it to both boats when they were still available. We had to drill the
boats and add the skeg to the top back of the boat. It flips up with a pull
of the cord and you pull the opposite cord to drop it. These boats wouldn't
Eskimo roll easily. They're similar to the Perception Carolinas I think
they were called but they have a little more room for a childseat. Around
here you always have to carry a GPS because the fog sets in fast!!! Another
thing to remember when yakking.
Deb

[jerry goldsmith] If you are taking those boats in Saltwater you HAVE to
LEARN to ESKIMO ROLL and SELF RESCUE. And then practice it when you have
someone else with you to be safe. As for sitting low, you do sit a but
higher in a SOT, but remember, as you go up, the fulcrum for rolling the yak
becomes greater. I fish 98% of the time out my kestrel 120, A 12 ft
SIT-INSIDE. I just love this boat. even thought it means I sometimes have
to paddle aways to get shallow enough to get in and out of it. Can't get
much lower.
