I recently lost two (of my 3) Mustad 277s SOMEWHERE in the vicinity of my
desk...possibly the floor. My standard method of locating dropped
hooks...and remember that I am not very intelligent...is to quickly run my
hand or bare foot across the area where I suspect the hook to be.
I used to use that method till I dismantled a dead computer drive and
retrieved the
small but VERY powerful magnet contained inside (these were older
drives - haven't
dismantled one of the newer high density drives.....yet).
Shortly after I did that, I got a box of 100 Mustad 94840 size 28
hooks. While seated
at the dining table, I opened the box to show my wife how tiny they
were.......and
promptly dropped the box about 2/3 of them went off the table onto a nice shag
carpet. With a lot of loud yammering going on in my ears (I couldn't
understand the
words but I understood their meaning!), I went to the basement and
got the little magnet.
I made several sweeps over the carpet till I didn't get any more
hooks. I then counted them.
I had retrieved a total of 102 hooks.
I keep the magnet on my tying desk at all times now.
Talk to your local computer guru and see if he/she's got any dead
hard drives around.
Take the top off and harvest the magnet.
