Chuck...

I use it when tying para-loop flies. I attach one end to my tying
light above the hook and the other end to my loop of poly yarn. This
holds the loop straight up so I can easily wind on the hackle. I wrap
the hackle up the loop...then down again and tie it off. Then remove
the gallows and tie off the loop at the hook eye. Voila!
