Some years ago while visiting with a friend I skinned out a roadkill skunk. This hide was too good to pass up. It was cold and I did not smell anything. I wrapped it in a plastic bag and put it in my new van. The van warmed up inside with the windows closed. Several hours later when I was ready to leave, no need to tell you what the van smelled like. I drove the 50 miles home with windows open and freezing my butt off. The rest of the story!!!! I salted the hide and hung it in the garage. No smell till I would bring it inside. To make a long story short, it hung in the garage for several months. I was washing some deer hair on the skin with Borax and Joy dishwashing soap. I decided to wash the skunk skin one more time This time I used the Borax and Joy mix. The skin part came out almost white and the fur was real silky. All the order was gone. This skin hangs in my tying room now.

It may not help with the smell in the house but washing your dog with the mix will remove the skunk smell.
