Platypus often come out just on dusk and can somethimes be mistaken for a large trout.. I have acidentally cast to a few in my time, luckily I haven't foul hooked one.. if I did I'd have to cut the leader.

I have however accidentally hooked a 6 foot 40lb + eel in NZ...it decided to make lunch from the little 2 pound trout I had hooked and was trying to land... these suckers have nasty big teeth, and a bloke I know over there has the scars from a bite to the calf while wet wading..

Needless to say when my mate saw the eel heading towards me he jumped up on a rock, and urged me to do the same..

Fortunately I was able to point my rod and the eel and bust off before he turned my 6 weight into splinters....

cheers Ian

PS Found about 40 red backs in the garden on the weekend when i was clearing up some old roof tiles...
