I remember in the 70's they tried to charge us by the Litre to make it SEEM, like gas was cheaper.... I mean, 39.9 cents per litre SOUNDED cheaper than $1.49.9 a gallon....At least they did that in FL where I was stationed in the FL panhandle.. They said the reason was because the pumps were not designed to go over 99 cents, they only had two decimals in the counters, so when it hit $1.00 they had to do that (the litre thing) till they built new pumps with three digits..
