I know I occasionally consider buying a motorcycle too, Del, what with the
cost of gas going up and no real decrease in sight ever. However, I only
have to read the paper for a couple days and see or hear of some bad
accident with one to be reminded that they are dangerous! I agree with
Jimmy, buy an old pick-up instead.

I think one of the worst aspects of a bike is that they are invisible -
people just don't see them until too late; and this is true no matter what
steps you take to be more visible -headlights on, bright/reflective
clothing, etc.

Del, the last thing I'd buy is a motorcycle.  They're nothing but a "wreck
on the way to happen".  I speak from the experiences of my sordid youth.  My
Norton Denominator almost got me killed the day it threw me at a concrete
slab, my head missing the corner of the slab by a scant few inches.  That
was it for me. That was not the only time I got hurt either.  I still have
the burn scars on my arms and legs, for every time I layed that bike down,
it got on top of me!  Hardly a day goes by that I don't read about a serious
injury or death from riding bikes.   Put you money in a good old pick up
truck!

List,
My wife's car gets paid off this year and I am looking into buying a
motorcycle. I have only ridden on one, never driven one. One of the colleges
here offers a basic course where they supply the bike. The one they supply
is a Honda Rebel. I fully intend to take the course before buying a bike.
My question is this... I am looking at either a Yamaha 2006 Virago 250,
a Yamaha 2006 V Star Silverado, or a Honda Shadow VLX Deluxe.
What are your words of wisdom?? I would like a bike that not only can I
learn to master, but one that I won't "out grow" too fast. Any input would
be greatly appreciated.
