Del asked:
Clear Floating Line - Has anyone ever fished these? Thoughts? Comments?

Del,

I have been fishing with a Monic brand clear floating line all this season, and have had mixed feelings about it. First of all, the concept does work... in my fishing at Sugar Creek Ranch, I am fishing for very wary, educated, big trout. Numerous times using regular opaque floating lines, I have seen trout cruising near the bank, stop and change direction rather than swim UNDER the line. That does not happen when I am using the clear floating line, which doesn't seem to bother the fish, though no doubt some still see it. It is one of my favorite lines to cast, not finicky at all.

The first Monic clear floating line I got off eBay may have been from a defective batch as the coating around the monofilament core seemed soft and started stripping off after a dozen days of use. Fishing in rocky areas is particularly hard on this type of coating. Finally, I sent that line back to the Monic factory asking for a replacement line, and to their credit they sent me one. The line I got in return had a noticeably harder coating, and I think will be durable. I would buy again particularly since Monic had no hesitation backing their product.

On the other hand, I have seen, but not cast the Cortland 555 Clear floater and think it is an abomination. Very stiff, lots of memory, would be like casting plastic broom straw! Maybe there are fans out there who like this product, but I'll pass on that one.

Hope this helps. Since the email is still screwed up, I cannot directly reply to posts and have to cut and paste from the VFB archives. This may cause this message not to 'thread' properly into the topic list. Sorry.
