yes regular teflon tape used for plumbing. I leave about 1 1/2 times the
shank length. I actually learned about using the teflon tape from an old
timer drift fishing for steelhead with corkies and yarn, replace the yarn
with the tape, trapped in an egg loop. I don't do anything special to it,
when it's wet it strings out nicely, on occasion I do split it length wise
but don't think it's necessary. If you have some handy cut a piece off and
get it wet.
