Here in the UK when bait fishing in the salt I use a small sequin threaded
onto the line and above that a small (1/4" long) piece of rubber or silicone
tube as a stop. Thread the tube onto your leader and pass the leader through
it twice. it looks like a loop of line. Pull the leader and it will turn the
tube inside out. This can then be moved up or down the leader without having
to undo knots and it does not damage the line. Needless to say the tube does
not have to be too big. 1/16th" diameter or so should be good. The sequin is
to stop the bait getting pushed up the line when power casting so will
probably not be needed for fly casting.

You couldn't let it travel too far up the leader or another one would bite
it. One of my buddies suggested tying a small piece of clear rubber band or
something like that to
the leader or threading it on the wire leader to stop the fly from traveling
too far from the fish that's on.
